LUKE GRIFFIN, attained a whopping 7 distinctions and an average of 94.5% in his Independent Examinations Board (IEB) matric results. He achieved 91% for Afrikaans (first additional language); 96% for English; 92% for History; 96% for Life Orientation; 90% for Life Sciences; 99% for Mathematics; and 98% for Physical Sciences.
“I was hoping for the best in my matric results. I put in the time and I worked really hard in the hope of doing well. I was expecting an average of around 80%. I’m really pleased with how I did.”

Luke is the fourth child in his family to attend Hatfield Online School. Luke’s older brother and sister have matriculated, graduated and are out earning livings. His little brother is a year or two behind him. “Remote, online schooling works for our family,” Sandie Griffin, mother to Luke Griffin, says. “One needs discipline and patience. But the children are able to work at their own pace and develop their own interests. They learn independent problem-solving and how to progress with natural, confident authenticity. They’re not aggregated as one of 20 or 30 in a class. I think it’s socially healthier too as online-schooled children choose their friends and their extra-curricular activities from a huge online/home-schooling community. It has brought out the best in Luke, and in his brothers and sister, too.”
